PC Building
Gallery
I built a PC earlier this year. Short speclist: E8400 (stock); GTS250 (1GiB); 4GiB (1066MHz); 640GiB (dual-platter); P5Q (Intel P45).

Pre-build shot of the unpacked parts, still in their boxes. An Asus (Intel P45) P5Q motherboard, and a Palit (nVidia GeForce) GTS250 graphics card. |
 |
Another pre-build shot of the rest of the components in their boxes. Corsair XMS2 2x2GiB PC28500/1066MHz memory modules, an Intel E8400 3GHz processor, a Western Digital Caviar Black 640GiB hard drive, an Antec Basiq 550W power supply, and the case is an Antec 300. |
 |
The mainboard screwed into the case, with the processor and the processor heatsink attached to it. (The processor and heatsink were attached to the mainboard before screwing the mainboard into the case, as to make the process somewhat easier on myself. Intel heatsinks are a pain to get on properly.) |
 |
The graphics card inserted into the mainboard along with the memory modules. The IDE DVD drive (taken from my old computer: waste not, want not) is connected to the mainboard, along with the SATA hard drive. The front panel is also connected via the Q-Connector. |
It may seem somewhat unnecessary to list all the components here, there is a practical reason: this build works, and works well, and people who are considering doing their own home-build may well want to use this as a template of compatible parts.
